FROST BITE IN WEST TEXAS

M.J.is a 64 year old lady who developed frost bite of her big toe right here in West Texas.
She became stranded outside during an unusual cold snap, and had to walk home
over a 4 hour period while wearing sandals on her feet.
Her pain was incredible.

After debridement of blisters and dead skin under nerve block anesthesia,
the underlying skin showed non-blanchable erythema...a very ominous sign.

Despite taking antibiotics, circulation pills, and pain pills,
her pain persisted, and her toe progressed into overt gangrene.

I had to amputate her big toe.
